About GDDGs
Going Deeper Discipleship Groups (GDDGs)
(formally Going Deeper Bible Study Small Group)
We have decided to change the format of our weekly small group and form smaller discipleship groups of 2-6 students each. We are planning to form 4 GDDGs this year with the intent to add more soon.
So what are GDDGs going to do and what does this mean to me…
The idea of GDDGs is based on this passage from Mark 3:13-15:
Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve—designating them apostles—that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons.
And also from Matthew 28:16-20 — The Great Commission
Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
As so we have these goals for GDDGs
- Grow in the Lord
- Deepen our relationship with the Lord
- Desire to serve the Lord
- Go and serve the Lord
The adult staff of Waters Edge will divide into adult pairs and develop, lead and otherwise manage there GDDG. Each adult pair will be assigned 2-6 youth. They would have regular meeting times with them which would take the form of a bible study, fellowship time and/or a time of prayer and worship. The day and time of these meeting will depend entirely on the make up of each group.
In the end, these groups should be able to multiple naturally. Youth should be able to have there own GDDGs within their schools and neighborhoods. We want them to:
- Receive personally
- Repeated easily
- Reproduce strategically
